RFE Misreading Pattern
USCIS Cited an Incorrect Figure or Job Title
A specific number (salary, citation count, team size, funding amount) or job title in the RFE does not match what the original filing actually submitted.
What it typically looks like
"The petitioner claims a salary of $X, but the submitted evidence does not support this figure" — where the original documentation in fact states a different (often higher, sometimes just differently formatted) number.
Why it's a misreading
Numbers get transcribed incorrectly during RFE drafting more often than most petitioners expect — a title copied from an early draft résumé rather than the final offer letter, a salary figure read off the wrong row of a table, or a citation count from an outdated CV version submitted earlier in the file.
How to rebut it
Cite the original document and the exact correct figure side-by-side with what the RFE stated, so the discrepancy is immediately visible to the adjudicator without them needing to re-locate the source themselves. Where the correct figure only strengthens the underlying argument (e.g. the real salary is higher than what USCIS cited), say so plainly — the correction itself becomes affirmative evidence.
